PONDA: After an extensive search lasting 17 hours, conducted by fire personnel, the coast guard, and a group of local residents, the body of eleven-year-old Darshan Narvekar from Sainagar-Usgao was discovered floating in OPA river on Wednesday around 1:30 pm.
The boy had gone missing the previous evening around 5:30 pm while returning home from tuition while attempting to cross a nullah and was swept away after slipping due to heavy rainfall which caused a rise in water level.
The community is mourning the loss of this young boy, who came from a disadvantaged family. He is survived by two older sisters and his mother, while his father had previously succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking after the tragic demise of young boy Social activist Suraj Garad emphasized the need for parents to be vigilant regarding their children’s safety, especially in light of changing climate conditions.
