  3. Encourage youth to promote their talents: Faldessai

The youth of Goa need to be encouraged to showcase their sporting talent so that they can rise up and make the state proud, said Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai.

He was speaking on Wednesday to announce the Rajesh Faldessai Chashak 2024 All Goa Panchayat and Municipality Level Floodlight Heavy Ball Cricket Tournament to be held at Cumbarjua from March 3 to 7.

36 teams from across the state will be participating in this floodlight tournament

The winning team will be awarded Rs 2.5 lakhs, 2nd prize Rs 1.25 lakhs, and semi finalists will get Rs 40,000 each.

Chief organiser of the tournament, Prashant Bhandari, said that, “We got full support from our MLA to organise this tournament. He has sponsored the prize money which probably is the highest amount we have seen so far in any tournament organised in the constituency,” he said.

In his address, Faldessai said that the aim behind organising such a tournament is to encourage and motivate the youth so that they can showcase their talents.

“When Bhandari came to me with the proposal, I had no hesitation in giving my go-ahead to organise the tournament. This is the first time that we are organising such a big sporting event in the constituency. We are also organising volleyball, football and badminton in the coming months.

We should encourage the youth. Our youth will immensely benefit from this as they will get a chance to showcase their talent here, and they will rise up through this event. When we organise such tournaments, our youth will also remain physically fit,” he said.

He also thanked the 36 teams from across Goa who are participating in the tournament.

“Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Sports Minister Govind Gaude are working hard to ensure that our youth get a platform to perform and progress ahead in life. We have IPL and other international events. When our youth perform at such tournaments, they have the potential to showcase their talent at these various higher platforms. I urge our other MLAs and ministers across the state to organise such events so that the youth do not stray on the wrong path,” he said.
