  3. FEAR OF LAW AMONG CRIMINALS  IS IN MORIBUND STATE: LOP YURI ALEMAO

PANAJI:  Stating that surging crime against women and other innocents is concerning, the Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday said that fear of law among criminals is in moribund state.

Reacting to the incident of passing lewd comments against local woman in Calangute, Congress leader Yuri Alemao said that this incident of crime denote that miscreants are no more afraid of the Khaki-clad police.

“It is very disturbing to see that in our own Goa, the tourists are passing lewd comments against our local women. BJP government has failed to arrest trends of prostitution and hence tourists visiting here dare to ask ‘aati kya’ to any women moving in the coastal belts. We don’t want such tourists who fail to respect women,” Alemao lamented.

“I condemn the incident of Calangute, where our local woman had to face such kind of situation, wherein some miscreants tried to eve-tease her and passed lewd comments. When local women are not safe, what kind of safety will the BJP government give to tourists visiting Goa?,” he questioned.

“Two years back around 500 people from Calangute and Baga had protested against prostitution and dadagiri by touts. Local women had then expressed fear that it was risky to move out of the house in the evening. It has become reality now. As prostitution rackets are operating in coastal belts and other areas, tourists feel that these are red light areas,” he pointed out.

He said that our daughters and sisters are not safe in our own Goa. “Goa was known for its beauty, heritage, rich culture and brotherhood. BJP is converting Goa into prostitution, touts culture, Dadagiri and crime hub. Fear of law is fading because Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as a Home Minister has failed and he is not serious to combat these issues,” Alemao said.
