BICHOLIM: Goa police finally registered first information report (FIR) against ex-RSS chief Subash Velignkar for his statement against St Francis Xavier wherein he called for DNA test of the saint just ahead of  decennial exposition next month.

The FIR filed is based on a complaint by Aam Admi party Velim MLA Cruz Silva at Bicholim police station as the offensive statement made by Subash Velignkar  at a function in  Bicholim some days back. The complaint has been registered under section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs ) of  BNS.

It may be recalled that over half a dozen complaints have been filed at various police stations across North and South Goa by several groups demanding Velingkar’s arrest.

Meanwhile tension prevailed again in Margao on Saturday after hundreds of protesters blocked the road demanding arrest of  Subhash Velingkar.

On Friday evening, protesters led by Pratima Coutinho, Fidol and Velim MLA Cruz Silva first assembled at the Margao police station  and lodged a complaint against Velingkar and then blocked the main city road near the Margao Post Office.
