  3. FOREST DEPARTMENT LIFTS  BAN ON VISITORS  ACCESS TO MAINPAI WATERFALL

NETRAVALI: The Mainpai waterfall, situated within the Netravali wildlife sanctuary, has reopened to tourists and the general public as of January 9.

It is important to note that the waterfall, along with several other high-risk locations, was closed to the public on June 5 of the previous year following two tragic drowning incidents.

These incidents involved a 55-year-old LIC officer from Mapusa, Janardan Sadekar, and a 24-year-old engineer, Shivdutt Naik, from Vasco, both of whom drowned during their visits to the waterfall as part of separate groups, being swept away by a strong current.

The decision to lift the ban was announced by Praveen Kumar Raghav, the additional principal chief conservator of forests and chief wildlife warden, on January 9.

He indicated that the forest department made this decision after a thorough evaluation of the circumstances, taking into account that the monsoon season has recently concluded in Goa and that water levels at the waterfall are now within safe limits.
