Pursuant to a meeting between the  Learned Vice Chancellor,  Goa University and Director General of Police Goa in connection with issues related to safety of women Students,  North district Police , Women Cell of Goa Police and Pink Force of Goa Police organised an interactive session with Girl Students of the University on various safety measures. A demo of Self – Defence was also organized on the occasion. The Goa Police Team was  headed byShri. NidhinValsan, SP North. The other members of the team included:

4) Shri. VikramNaik, PI Agacaim PS

5) Shri. Satish Padwalkar, PI Old Goa PS,(Ex student of Goa University)

6) Shri. M Shridhara Joint Registrar of Goa University

Several faculty members of Goa University also participated in the event. Around 200 girlstudents attended the program.They were  briefed  on women safety measures, steps to be taken in the event ofemergency. They were also imparted tips on as to  how to tackle problems typically faced by the womenin a developing society.

Further,  the students were briefed  about eve teasing and sexual harassment at work place. Need for Legal literacy  and various measures and precautions  to be taken during such situations were also explained at length. In addition,   all students were explained about relevant sections ofIndia Penal Code and other Legislations related to Crimes against Women.

The Demonstration on Self -Defence techniques was given by Coach Siraj Khan. During the interactive Session their  grievances and other questions were taken up by the team and appropriate response was given by the team.The participants were exhorted to come forward and report the incidents,  if any during their commuting and Stay at the campus.Contact numbers of various help lines and Units were shared with them. The interactive Session was appreciated by the Students and the University administration.
