Agriculture Minister Shri Ravi Naik has stated that in this modern era, if every individual takes inspiration from the freedom fighters who sacrificed their precious life for the liberation of Goa, the country will reach greater heights in the future.

Shri Naik was speaking after laying a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial at Kranti Maidan, Ponda to mark the celebration of Goa Revolution Day at a function held at Ponda today.

Stating that freedom fighters from Goa have contributed a lot for the progress and development of Goa. Shri Naik said because of the tireless efforts of freedom fighters this tiny State Goa of Indian Union attained freedom from the colonial rule as such we should always remain indebted to their sacrifices.

Shri Naik informed that he had taken the issue of Kranti Maidan land with then Defence Minister Shri Sharad Pawar and General Rodrigues when he was Chief Minister of Goa due to which the Ministry of Defence had allotted part of historic Kranti Maidan land to Ponda Municipal Council. Shri Naik urged the Defence Ministry to consider allotting back the remaining portion of land.

Among those present on the occasion were Shri Ritesh Naik, Chairperson, Ponda Municipal Council; Commanding Officer 6 TTR, Ponda, Col. Jasvinder Singh , ZP’s, Sarpancha’s, Shri Rohidas Naik, Ex-MLA and General Secretary of Freedom Fighters Association, Goa, Freedom Fighters, Government Officials and large number of students.

Students from different High Schools of Ponda presented patriotic songs on the occasion.

Earlier on his arrival at Kranti Maidan, the Agriculture Minister was received by Shri Rohan Kaskar, Dy. Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate, Ponda.

Shri Girish Velguekar compered the function.
