The State will observe the Goa Revolution Day on June 18, 2023, to recall the sacrifices of freedom fighters and Martyrs of Goa’s liberation struggle. Governor of Goa, Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai along with the Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant will lead the State in paying tributes to the freedom fighters at the Martyrs Memorial at Azad Maidan in the city at 8.54 a.m. They will also address the people on the occasion.
Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Shri Ramesh Tawadkar, Cabinet Ministers, Leader of Opposition, President of Goa, Daman and Diu of freedom fighters Association, Panaji and other freedom fighters will place wreaths at the Martyrs Memorial. Police Parade will pay compliment to the Martyr’s Memorial. On the arrival at the venue of the function the Governor will be received by Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Secretary, Shri Puneet Kumar Goel and Director General of Police and others.
Goa Revolution day is an appropriate occasion to pay tributes to the eternal memories of those who laid down their precious life for Goa’s liberation struggle. The day also assumes significance as on this day on June 18, 1946, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, a revolutionary and freedom fighter gave a clarion to the people of Goa to unite and fight against the colonial regime. Apart from the main function to be held at Azad Maidan, Panaji – functions will also be held at other places in Goa to commemorate the day.
At the function to be held at Lohia Maidan, Margao, Minister for PWD, Legislative Affairs, Environment, Law and Judiciary Shri Nilesh Cabral will pay tributes to the freedom fighters along with other dignitaries at 8.30 a.m. Whereas Minister for Agriculture, Shri Ravi Naik will pay homage to the freedom fighters at historic Kranti Maidan, Ponda. Various programmes will also be held in the State to commemorate the day. The choir group of Bal Bhavan will sing patriotic songs on the occasion.
