Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia gave the clarion call of Goa Revolution Movement from the historic Lohia Maidan at Margao on 18th June 1946. It was our own Dr. Juliao Menezes who took the initiative to invite Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia to Goa. Goa Government must organise the official Goa Revolution Day function at Lohia Maidan, Margao and start a Chair in Goa University in the name of Dr. Juliao Menezes, demanded Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.
Speaking to the Media after the Goa Revolution Day function at Azad Maidan, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao slammed the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for his failure to keep up with his own commitment given last year on 18th June 2023 to give Government Jobs to all the Children of Freedom Fighters by October 2023.
I am consistently demanding in the last six sessions of the Goa Legislative Assembly that the Government must notify the historic Lohia Maidan, Margao, Azad Maidan, Panaji, Matyrs’ Memorial at Assolna and Patradevi and other Monuments connected to Goa Revolution Movement and Goa Liberation Movement as “Places of Historic Importance”. The Government has failed to act on the same. I demand that the Government must bring a Bill in the coming Assembly session and notify all the places, stated Yuri Alemao.
I salute the President of Goa Freedom Fighters Association Rohidas Desai for raising the issue of Environmental Destruction, Land Conversions, Prostitution and Drug Menace and warning the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant of the dangers posed to the next generation due to the faulty policies of the Government. Freedom Fighters have once again shown the mirror to the Government, stated Yuri Alemao.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao paid Tributes to all the known and unknown Freedom Fighters and their Families who sacrificed everything to Liberate Goa from the dictatorial Portuguese Regime. He said that it is the duty of all the Citizens to remember the great contribution of our Freedom Fighters.
