PANAJI: A large number of Goyant Kollso Naka activists on Wednesday staged protest outside the Secretariat, Porvorim demanding that the Goa Cabinet should immediately stop work of laying railway double track, national highway expansion and Tanmar power transmission project in the State.

The protestors under the banner of Goyant Kollso Naka wanted to hand over a letter to Sawant appealing to him to discuss these issues in the Cabinet meeting held later and to stop the ongoing works of three major projects.

Goyant Kollso Naka co-convenor Abhijit Prabhudesai appealed to the government to scrap the three projects and to protect the interest of future generation. He said, “We will continue our mass movement and civil disobedience till the time the government drop the three projects in Goa.”

Goyant Kollso Naka, the people’s movement has been fighting against double tracking suspecting that it was for coal transportation in Goa and that the government wants to make coal hub in the State. The protestors alleged that the construction of double tracking by railways was to increase coal transportation through Goa multiple times and help for the profits of coal lobby of Adani, Vedanta and Jindal.
