GPMC NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE “DIWALI GIFT HAMPER” TO GOVERNOR AND CM

PANAJI: Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress was on Friday not allowed to give the Diwali gift hamper to the Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.

The gift hamper consisted of onions and other vegetables such as tomatoes and potatoes.

After arguments with the police, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress president Pratima Coutinho was alone allowed to give a memorandum to the Governor, whereas the rest of the delegation was not allowed to meet the Governor at the Raj Bhavan.

Pratima alleged that the government on this occasion of the festival of lights has put the people of Goa into darkness by their laws. The government is allowing corporate representatives to give Diwlai gift hampers to the Governor and the Chief Minister and was discriminating political party leaders.

She said inflation of vegetables in September this year was 22.71 per cent and pulses was 13.69 per cent. Also prices of onions and potatoes increased by 150 per cent and tomatoes rose by 50 per cent.
