Porvorim, 10th November, 2023: In a splendid ceremony held at Porvorim today, the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, under the dynamic leadership of Honorable Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, inaugurated the much-awaited Deepotsav 2023. The event commenced with the lighting of lamps by the esteemed Tourism Minister, signifying the initiation of three days of cultural revelry and spiritual significance.

Penha de Franca sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Socorro Sarpanch Sonia Pednekar, ZP Kavita Gupesh Naik, other panch members were also present on dais.

This year’s Deepotsav holds special reverence as it commemorates the legendary tale of Lord Krishna’s courageous triumph over the demon Narkasur. The festival aims to not only celebrate the rich cultural heritage but also to impart the profound teachings embedded in our mythology.

As part of the inaugural celebrations, a captivating cultural program titled “Deeprang” unfolded, featuring stellar performances by renowned artists. The audience was enthralled by the enchanting voice of former Sa Re Ga Ma little champ Mugdha Vaishampayan, along with the mesmerizing acts of Prathamesh Laghate and the comedic brilliance of Hasya Kalakar Bharat Ganeshpure.

Honorable Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, speaking on the occasion, emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly initiatives, hinterland tourism, and traditional festivals. He highlighted the significance of providing opportunities for Goan artists to showcase their talents through various competitions. Minister Khaunte expressed, “We need to showcase our cultural traditions and festivals to attract tourists, and events like Deepotsav serve as the perfect platform for this purpose.”

Local artists performed mesmerising Ganesh Vandana and Samai Dance during inaugural ceremony.

The program was skillfully compered by Siddhi Upadhye, adding an extra layer of charm and engagement to the event. GTDC officer Depak Narvekar extended a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective efforts that made the event possible.
