MARGAO: Madganvcho Awaaz has urged the government to begin monitoring the situation in Goa and to implement preventive measures to ensure that all primary health centers, district hospitals, and Goa Medical College are adequately prepared to manage the circumstances following the confirmation of the first cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Bengaluru, where a three-month-old girl and an eight-month-old boy tested positive for the virus.
In a press release, Prabhav Naik, the founder of Madganvcho Awaaz, advised the public to remain calm while emphasizing the importance of maintaining hygiene and seeking prompt medical consultation if any symptoms of HMPV arise.
HMPV generally presents symptoms similar to those of a common cold, including cough, wheezing, runny nose, or sore throat. However, it can lead to severe respiratory issues in young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems, necessitating immediate medical intervention, as noted by Prabhav Naik based on insights from medical professionals.
The memories of the distress experienced at Goa Medical College during the COVID-19 pandemic remain vivid for the people of Goa, and there is a collective hope that the government will take proactive measures rather than waiting for directives from the central government, which could inadvertently incite panic among citizens, said Prabhav Naik.
Prabhav Naik also emphasized the need for private hospitals to be prepared for any emergencies arising from the virus outbreak.
