In response to the brutal molestation and murder of a postgraduate student from RJ KAR Medical College kolkota ,IMA Goa State as per the directives of IMA HQ declared a State level shutdown of opd services from 6a.m. Saturday 17/08/24 to 6a.m .Sunday 18/08/2024.
In response to call given by IMA Goa State almost 200 doctors assembled at Azad maidan .State IMA President Dr Sandesh Chodankar while adressing the crowd put forth various demands including the justice to breaved family withbimmediate arrest of the culprits,strict stringent law for violence against the Doctors and declaration of the hospitals as the safe zones.
IMA Bicholim President Dr Shekhar Salkar and Hon MLA Bicholim Dr Chandrakant Shetye also spoke apt to the occasion.
Further on all the doctors proceeded to old GMC complex with a silent march wearing the black armbands.The rally cocluded with speeches and expressions from IMA members and other association members.
The members from the various associations like Indian Dental Association,Dental private doctors,Nursing,
Pharmacy,Ayurveda,Physiotheraphy,chemist and drugs, medical representatives association , women ngo bailancho sad,inner wheel also joined and actively participated in the rally.
Shortly after that IMA delegation comprising of IMA Goa State President Dr Sandesh Chodankar,Hon Secretary Dr.Rajashree Marathe,IMA Bicholim President Dr Shekhar Salkar,MLA Bicholim Dr Chandrakant Shetye associate member of ima bicholim and dr Vishvnath marathe member of ima bicholim met Hon CM Dr.Pramod Sawant at Sakhli and explained him about the purpose of todays protest and opd shutdown across Goa.
It was also informed to him that we are sympathetic towards patient care and any medical emergency management will not suffer. IMA Goa State submitted a memorandum to Hon CM demanding amendments in Present Medicare personal Act 2013,fast tracking of cases of violence against doctors,setting up a district task force for an immediate action on violence against doctors,sensitisation of law enforcing agency regarding safety of healthcare workers and the most important to review the medical facilities across Goa with respect to safety and security of women at workplace. Hon CM promised to get back to us on a positive note.
