  3. Indian Coast Guard Campus Of DHQ-11 at Chicolna Commissioned 100 KW Solar Power Plant

1.      The 100 KW solar power plant was commissioned on 25 Sept 2023 at Indian Coast Guard campus at Chicolna. This solar power plant will supply the power to existing grid and generate revenue which will bring down the electricity charges being levied by state electricity department. With the commissioning of 100 KW solar power plant, DHQ-11 campus at Chicolna initiated the first step towards achieving the ultimate goal of being completely carbon negative campus in future with another 100 KW solar power in pipeline.

2.      In a first of its kind the solar panels have been installed on the roof of administrative building of DHQ-11 thereby utilising the existing infrastructure for power generation. The commissioning of the solar power plant is crucial in achieving the objective of “National Solar Mission” under the Union government.

3.      *Apart from anticipated annual fiscal savings of 20 lakhs to the national exchequer, the 100 KW power plant will be connected to the state electricity grid making it possible for the power generated at Chicolna to be consumed across the city, thus ensuring achieving of “National Clean Air Programme” by reducing dependency on conventional thermal power plants.

4.      Various projects have been undertaken by Indian Coast Guard at Goa through GE (1) (CG) Goa of Military Engineering Services in order to reduce carbon footprints and tackling the challenge of climate change and global warming. Some of the projects likely to be commissioned in near future are sewage treatment plant of 465 KLD capacity being achieved in two phases, rain water harvesting of approximately one lakh litres capacity.
