CALANGUTE: In a dire warning, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo highlighted the alarming decline in foreign tourism in Goa, citing poor beach cleaning, inadequate cab services, and rampant stray dog menace. Lobo emphasized the urgent need for a joint meeting to address these concerns and devise a plan to revive Goa’s tourism sector.
“The decline in foreign tourism is a wake-up call for us,” Lobo said. “We need to take immediate action to address the issues plaguing our tourism industry. We cannot afford to wait any longer.”
Lobo expressed concerns over various aspects of the tourism industry, including carrying capacity, rent-a-car services, showcasing Goan culture, law and order, beggar rehabilitation, and establishing a coordination committee.
“The state government needs to take proactive steps to address these issues,” Lobo stressed. “We need to work together with stakeholders to find solutions and revive Goa’s tourism sector.”
Lobo also pointed out the hazards posed by internet wires hanging from polls, urging private businesses to remove them. “It’s a matter of safety and aesthetics,” he said. “We need to ensure that our tourist areas are clean, safe, and visually appealing.”
The meeting aims to bring together government officials, tourism industry representatives, and local community leaders to find solutions. “We need to put our heads together and come up with a comprehensive plan to revive Goa’s tourism sector,” Lobo emphasized.
As Goa’s tourism sector teeters on the brink of collapse, Lobo’s call to action is timely. Will the state government heed his warning and take action to restore Goa’s reputation as a premier tourist destination?
