PANJIM: The son of a deceased patient leveled serious charges of medical negligence against Manipal Hospitals, Dona Paula, claiming that complications arising out of wrong treatment by doctors led to her death on Wednesday.
According to son of the deceased, Viraj Chodankar from Siolim, his mother had been admitted to Manipal on August 11 and two doctors conducted a laser biopsy on her. He claimed that doctors performed a surgery on her on August 14 after they allegedly told him that they had made a mistake during the laser procedure. “One doctor told me that the laser had touched her large intestine, while another said that medical equipment had led to the complication. They also told me that the patient had jaundice and pneumonia,” he said.
Chodankar has also given his statement to the police, who have registered a case of unnatural death and an autopsy will be conducted on Thursday.
MANIPAL HOSPITALS’ STATEMENT
Manipal Hospitals skips primary charges, says “complications” addressed in “timely manner”. “We confirm that a patient was admitted to our facility for evaluation of lymph node pathology and treated for the same. The patient had developed complications which were addressed in a timely manner. Despite the best efforts by the medical team, the patient’s condition deteriorated and sadly she succumbed to her illness.”
