Panaji, November 14, 2023: Every year on November 16th National Press Day is observed to recognize and honour the Press Council of India. The day celebrates with existence of a free and accountable press in the Nation.

As in the previous years, the Department of Information and Publicity will organise National Press Day in association with Goa Editor’s Guild, Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ), Photo Journalist Association of Goa (PJAG), Sports Journalist Association of Goa (SJAG), Electronic Media Journalist Association of Goa (EMJAG) and South Goa Journalist Association (SGJA). The function will be held at Institute Menezes Braganza hall in the city on November 16, 2023.

Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant will be the Chief Guest. The function will commence at 9.30 a.m. with registration, followed by interactive session on the topic “Challenges and Opportunities in journalism in the ever increasing digital, mobile and social media environment.”

The Participants for the interactive session will be Shri. Marcus Mergulhao, Sports editor, Times of India, Shri. Mahesh Ghadi, Senior Reporter Prudent Media. Shri. Niraj Naik, Digital Goa, Shri. Shripad Merchant, Associate Professor, Dnyanprasrak Mandal’s College & Research Centre. Shri. Vasudev Pagi, Principal correspondent Lokmat will be the moderator.

The highlight of the celebration will be the conferment of the prestigious Life Time Achievement Award in journalism for the year 2023 on Shri. Pramod Khandeparkar a veteran journalist instituted by the Department of Information and Publicity for his immense contribution in the field of journalism.

On the occasion five senior journalist will be felicitated for their contribution in journalism field. These includes Shri. Vijay D’Souza, Editor The Navhind Times, Shri. Ashely Do Rosario, Senior Journalist, The Goan Everyday, Shri. Shekhar alias Vilas Mahadik, Senior Journalist Gomantak, Shri. Narendra Tari, Senior Journalist, Gomantak and Shri. Vithoba alias Vithu Sukhadkar, Senior Journalist, Lokmat.

The Chief Minister and other dignitaries will present journalist awards instituted by the Department and to winners of photo contest organised as part of National Press celebration.
