Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai said that there is an urgent need to upgrade and rebuild the dilapidated Old Goa police station, and blamed the archaeological survey of India for impeding the plans to complete the approval process for work to commence.
He was speaking on the fifth day of the ongoing monsoon session of assembly.

“The Old Goa police station caters to a wide jurisdiction upto Chorao, Divar, islands, as well as Chimbel, Merces, etc, with around 1 lakh population. We need 8 PSIs, 8 ASIs, and well as 25 home guards. We need constables are well. The staff at the police station is overloaded and understaffed. We need vehicles, including a bus. Also, the fire and emergency services needs to be equipped with necessary tools like crane etc to cater to emergencies like tree falls” he said.

He also spoke on the lack of employment opportunities at Syngenta based at Corlim, as well as no CSR initiatives by the company in his constituency.

While supporting the need for a garbage treatment plant, he also raised the issue of the proposed Bainguinim treatment plant which will affect residents who are living in close proximity of the plant area. He urged the government to consider another site for the plant.
