NSUI members on Thursday called upon Governor P S Shreedharan Pillai urging him to retain ordinance ‘OA-25’, which gives immunity to students to make evaluation of exam papers.

NSUI Goa President Naushad Chowdhari, along with South District president Shane Rebelo, General Secretary Focrodin Muzawar and others met governor and requested that not to give the assent to abolish the ordinance, instead reduce the fees of evaluation from Rs 5000 per paper to Rs 1200-1500 per paper.

Chowdhari said that this ordinance serves as a crucial tool for students to evaluate their exam papers, when any error occurs during corrections.

“If this particular right of students is abolished then it will be injustice to students of engineering, medicine, and law. Challenge Evaluation allows students to seek a review of their examination papers if they believe that errors or discrepancies have occurred during the grading process,” he said.

He said that the abolition of ‘OA-25’ would deprive students of the opportunity to seek redress and would erode trust in the examination system.

“We have urged the Governor not to give assent to abolish this ordinance. This will affect our student community. If challenge evaluation is scrapped then students will fail even if they feel that errors were there in corrections,” he said.

He said that in courses where double evaluation occurs, it is imperative that the highest mark obtained by a student is considered, rather than averaging the two evaluations.

“If our demands are not met then we will take this issue to every college to spread awareness about it. Finally, the career of students depends on examination,” he said.
