On Liberation day eve the NCC cadets of Goa took up a statue cleaning drive as a mark of respect to the sons of the soil who toiled sweat and blood to bring change in the Colonial era and post liberation. At Cuncolim the Commanding Officer Col Jesus Furtado & cadets laid a wreath at the statue of Freedom Fighter Shabu Desai, which was attended by Shri Vishal Desai son of Late Shri Shabu Desai.

Cadets in Margao cleaned the statues of Freedom Fighters & social Reformers, Dr Francis Luis Gomes, Dr Minguel de Loyola Furtado, Dr Jorge Barreto, Shri Agostinho Vincent Lourenco and Dr Luis de Menezes Braganca. The efforts of these men in the Freedom struggle and in the transformation of society were remembered.

A wreath was laid after cleaning the memorial of Martyr Lt Narendra Mayenkar, Kirti Chakra, who serves as a role model for the young generation to follow a career in the Indian Armed Forces. A late evening function was finally organised at Patra Devi for the brave Satyagrahis who sacrificed their lives for Goa. Col Jesus Furtado stressed that the aim of NCC is to make a child a better citizen and hence the need to live with dignity and honor in the country rather than choosing the path of escapism and migrating out of the country.
