
PANAJI: Goa Electricity Department today has issued show cause notices to cable operators and internet service providers directing them to remove their cables from electricity poles within 15 days. Department has also issued show cause and fine to Jio and Blitz Global Technologies Private Limited.
“We have issued show cause notices to the cable operators and internet service providers, directing them to remove their cables from electricity poles within 15 days,” said EE Kashinath Shetye
He further said that if they fail to comply, the department will remove the cables and impose penalties.
The Goa Cable TV Networking and Service Providers Association’s failure to pay fees has resulted in an estimated loss of almost Rs 50 crore, according to the Electricity Department.
He claimed that they had not paid the approximately Rs 300 per electrical pole usage fees.
The department’s losses to date total Rs 50 crore. According to Shetye, this estimate was determined using our evaluation of the amount owed by each operator to the department.
“Showcause notice issued to Jio & Blits Global Technologies; fined Rs 3.45 cr & 1.80 cr respectively by Electricity dept towards non-payment for utilizing electricity dept poles,” he added
EE Shetye also said that fine should be collected by local AE or JE or else they will be fined Rs 300 per day if they don’t act & debited from their salary.
