JODHPUR: Justice Rajendra Prakash Soni of the Rajasthan High Court died on Saturday following a cardiac arrest, officials said. Justice Soni had complained of chest pain late on Friday following which he was admitted in a private hospital, where he breathed his last.

Joining others in condoling his demise, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “The sudden demise of Rajasthan High Court judge Rajendra Prasad Soni is sad. I pray to god for peace to the departed soul and courage to the family members.”

Born to Parmeshwari and Ramchandra Soni, a businessman, R P Soni graduated in commerce and obtained LLB Degree from Jai Narayan Vyas University, Jodhpur.

Soni’s career was marked by his constant rise after being inducted into the Rajasthan Judicial Services. He served as a Civil Judge and later as a Senior Civil Judge in various places, before serving as the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ajmer. After promotion into regular District Judge Cadre in 2010, he worked as Additional District and Sessions Judge in Bharatpur, Jaipur City, Jodhpur, Nathdwara and Udaipur.

After being designated as District and Sessions Judge, he rendered services as Presiding Officer of Motor Accident Claims Tribunal at Udaipur and Rajsamand, and was also posted as Registrar (Administration) at the Principal Seat of Rajasthan High Court at Jodhpur.

He was Principal District and Sessions Judge in Dungarpur, Sirohi, Jalore, Udaipur and Kota Judgeships prior to his elevation. He was sworn in as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court on January 16, 2023.
