PANAJI: The arrest of social activist Rama Kankonkar and remanding him to14 days judicial custody for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has sparked a wave of controversy, with both activists and opposition parties in the state condemning the police’s actions.
Many have labeled the arrest as a case of ‘high handedness’ by the government, accusing authorities of stifling dissent. Rama Kankonkar’s father and wife has been deeply affected by the events, with his father visibly emotional when speaking to the media.
According to family members, they were denied the opportunity to meet Rama since early morning. The family expressed frustration over the lack of access and transparency regarding Rama’s well-being.
