REPORT TRUE FACTS ABOUT GOA, CM PRAMOD SAWANT TELLS SCRIBES 

PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday called upon the media to portray Goa in right perspective as tourist destination at the national level and to write factual reports on environment, tourism and business related activities.

Dr. Sawant was speaking at the National Press Day programme organized by the Department of information and Publicity in association with the Goa Editor’s Guild, Goa Union of Journalists. Photo Journalists Association Goa, Electronic Media Journalist Association, Sports Journalist Association Goa, and the South Goa Journalist Association.

Speaking further, Dr Sawant urged journalists to report factual on environment, tourism and business related matters as any wrong information would send a wrong message to tourists, who were visiting Goa in large numbers every year.

Appreciating the role of media during COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Sawant assured them that the government would consider granting compensation to them in case of any eventuality. The government would also explore the possibility of giving pension to those journalists who lost their jobs during COVID-19 pandemic, by advancing the age of superannuation.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister felicitated five senior journalists namely Wilfred Pereira, Suresh Vadavadekar, Anant Salkar, Soiru Komarpant and Suresh Naik for their contribution to the profession.

Veteran journalist Sitaram Tengse was conferred “Life Time Achievement Award” while, winners of Goa State Journalists Awards and photo contest were awarded prizes. 

Earlier, Director of Information and Publicity Sudhir Kerkar welcomed the gathering and GUJ president Rajtilak Naik introduced the felicitees. Information Officer Shyam Gaonkar conducted the programme and later proposed a vote of thanks.
