A review meeting on the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) project in Tuem was held with the Honorable Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Goa Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte, MLA of Mandrem Constituency Shri. Jit Arolkar, Tuem Sarpanch and members of the village panchayat from Mandrem, along with the Director of ITE&C Ms. Yashaswini B., IAS, MD ITG Mr. Praveen Volvotkar, OSD to the Minister of IT Mr. Neville Noronha, Deputy Director of IT Mr. Nijanand Vasta.
During the meeting, MLA Mr. Jit Arolkar clarified several concerns regarding the project. The Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C) provided updates on the current status of jobs and companies involved in the project. As of now, the EMC has projected an employment generation of over 1600 jobs through the allotment of a total of 9 plots – 5 industrial plots and 4 Micro Industrial Zone plots. The Minister has informed the Department of IT to share details of the qualifications required for these positions with the local MLAs and Panchayat members and suggested that they engage with the HR teams of the 9 companies allotted plots.
Additionally, 10 new applications are currently under scrutiny, with an expected employment potential of over 550+ jobs. A meeting of the GITDC committee is planned within the first week of August to review and issue development and construction licenses for the 9 companies.
Shri Rohan Khaunte emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “We initiated the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster sector in 2017, aiming to expedite its commencement. Despite facing challenges, with the support of our Honorable CM, we have completed the essential infrastructure work at Tuem. Our focus remains on ensuring maximum benefits for locals, with a preference for local employment. We have already allocated 9 plots, and we are currently working on defining the required skill metrics, which will be shared with the local MLAs and the panchayat. Facilities for dispensaries, fire, and police are nearing completion. This project is a unique opportunity for Goa, brought to the state by the Central government’s Double Engine Sarkar. Our administrative block is ready, and we will begin skill development in collaboration with the companies. This new cluster in Goa is set to provide new opportunities for locals, enhancing the local economy and driving comprehensive village development.”
The meeting also discussed the ongoing link road acquisition process to the EMC land. The office of the Deputy Director Pernem is handling the acquisition, and the process will be expedited by the Deputy Collector. The road construction will be undertaken by the PWD under the Road of Economic Importance (RoEI) scheme of the Government of India. In the meantime, EMC plot holders can use the existing village road to access the EMC park. The establishment of a warehouse has been prioritized, and the development of Plug and Play facilities is underway, allowing companies to commence operations swiftly. Phase 1 of the warehouse is expected to be completed by September 2024.
