Santa Cruz sarpanch Jennifer Oliveira said that during her tennure as sarpanch, the village of St Cruz has drastically curtailed issues related to any illegalities being carried thereby uplifting the development of the village and improving the livelihood of its villagers.
Addressing a press conference, Oliveira said that it was gravely unfortunate that some opposition panch members instead of appreciating and supporting the diligent work carried out by the panchayat chose to nitpick baseless issues solely for their personal benefit rather than for the betterment of the village.
“After our term began we began to act against encroachments, we impounded stray cattle and we cleared garbage on time. Instead of appreciating the work done the opposition Panch members have resorted to complaining that there were no proper notices issued to them based on certain technicalities,” Oliveira said.
Deputy Sarpanch Domnic Pereira opined that all age-old issues faced by the village of St Cruz have been solved after the present panchayat coming to power and therefore the opposition is forced to rack by such frivolous and baseless issues.
Pereira stated “The major issue that was faced by the village was that of garbage lying unattended and corruption. Today these issues have both been solved and are today not being raised anymore during the gram sabhas,”.
“The menace caused by stray cattle to farmers and general public have also been resolved. The cattle have been removed from the roads and many farmers are happy and have even begun replanting the fields after many years. We are impounding stray cattle regularly,” he added.
The panchayat body strongly objects to the allegations that they are conducting meetings without serving adequate notices to all the panch members and the panchayat refutes the alleged allegations by the opposition that they only act on certain illegal construction being carried out by certain businessmen and operators.
