PANAJI: Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Govind Gaude on Wednesday inaugurated the school playground at the Shri Sharada Vidyalaya Government High School at Cumbarjua in the presence of local MLA Rajesh Faldessai, members of the local panchayat and members of the Parents, Teachers Association of the school.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister praised the staff and management of the government high school for the efforts they put in teaching the students and helping give them all round development.
“If we are to make our students successful we have to give them the right training, the right advice as well as help them to deal with failures. We also need to give them the right facilities and a ground for the students is a step in that direction. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who has given me the important portfolios of Art and Culture and Sports and Youth Affairs, we will be developing school grounds in order to ensure that Government schools can compete with any schools of the region,” Gaude said.
Gaude also promised to help encourage sportsmen with the rewards of government jobs after they finish their sporting career.
“The life of a sportsperson ends at a young age. While other people end their careers at the age of 60, a sportsperson ends his career by the age of 35. We have a special quota for the employment of sportspersons even without interviews in government jobs provided they have brought laurels to the state and represented the state at the highest level,” Gaude said.
Speaking on the occasion local MLA Rajesh Faldessai thanked the sports minister for sanctioning and completing a school ground for the village.
“I wish to extend my wholehearted thanks to our sports minister Govind Gaude who has been working tirelessly in the sports department to improve the entire sports facilities of the department,” Faldessai said adding that he got the entire school painted on his own funds whilst pledging to continue to do the same.
