  3. TALL CLAIMS OF BJP GOVERNMENT FALL FLAT WITH GOA RANKING SECOND IN UNEMPLOYMENT RATE – YURI ALEMAO

Margao – BJP Government headed by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has time and again tried to set a false narrative about the rising unemployment rate in Goa. The tall claims of the BJP Government on employment generation have fallen flat with the latest Annual Report of Ministry of Statistics Programme Implementation ranking Goa second in the Country and 3.2 percent above National average with 9.7 percent unemployment rate. I demand that the Chief Minister must immediately release a “White Paper” on the unemployment in Goa, demanded Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.

It is loud and clear that the “Rojgar Melas”, “Mega Job Fairs” organised by the Central & State Government are nothing but Publicity Stunts. Government of Goa spent 3.10 crores on Mega Job Fair 2022 which provided employment to hardly 576 Youths from 21780 Youths who had registered for the Mega Job Fair, stated Yuri Alemao.

As per the data provided by the Government to me in the last Assembly Session, 115190 unemployed youths are registered with Employment Exchange. Out of these only 2817 youths were provided regular Government Jobs while 22986 were employed in Private sector, revealed Yuri Alemao.

BJP Government initiated Investment Promotion Board (IPB) promising Goans of huge Investment opportunities and Employment. Surprisingly, the data provided to me shows that Government has given away 12.91 lakhs Square meters of Land for an Investment of 726.43 Crores and 1037 Jobs out of which only 55 are given to Goans, stated Yuri Alemao.

This Government has become directionless. The recent Apprenticeship Scheme launched by the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant promising School drop outs a stipend of 8000 rupees per month is actually encouraging the Students to drop out from the Schools. Government needs to rethink on the said Scheme and provide Stipend to those Students who complete the Skill Development Course, demanded Yuri Alemao.

It is shocking that the Government has replied to me that the Labour & Employment Department has no data of the Reports published by the NITI Aayog, Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) & Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. The Government has also not done any survey to find the unemployment rate in Goa from 2019 till date, stated Yuri Alemao.
