The much-anticipated Purumentachem Fest, celebrating Goa’s rich tradition, heritage, music, food, and culture, is set to take place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from May 19th to May 21st,2023. Curated by Festakar Marius Fernandes, this year’s festival marks his 75th Fest and promises to be a truly memorable event.

The Purumentachem Fest ( festival of Provisions) serves as an opportunity for locals to stock up on essential items for the rainy season, such as salt fish, chillies, dry mangoes, clothes, footwear, pickles, kokum, masalas, sweets, dry spices, plants, handmade candles and much more. This festival is dedicated to promoting a zero-waste and inclusive environment, embracing the spirit of the community.

For the second year running, the festival will be hosted at the renowned Caculo Mall, the premier shopping center at St Inez, Panjim and a testament to the mall’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. The mall provides the perfect setting for attendees to explore and indulge in a wide variety of goods and experiences and an inclusive atmosphere to meet and interact with persons with various disabilities.

Purumentachem Fest will feature captivating performances by renowned Konkani musicians, including Agnelo Fernandes, Flossie Lopes, and Sabina d’Cunha. The festival will also offer engaging workshops conducted by co-curator Gwendolyn de Ornelas, in collaboration with Clavia Fernandes and Emera Remedios. Participants will have the opportunity to learn traditional skills and crafts while immersing themselves in Goa’s vibrant cultural traditions. Santan Rebello, a senior citizen with 100% disability of Cerebral Palsy will be conducting a workshop on Rotiação which is a trade of hand weavon lattice of cane.

One of the highlights of the festival will be demonstrations of Mango Grafting, led by Principal Dr. Suresh Kunkalikar and Shambhu Gaunkar from the Goa College of Agriculture. Attendees can witness the intricate process and gain valuable insights into this horticultural technique which needs to be preserved.

The Purumentachem Fest is a celebration of Goa’s rich history and diverse cultural heritage. It provides a platform for local artisans, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs who include persons with disabilities to showcase their unique creations and contribute to the sustainable growth of the community. Awareness about inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities is also a inseparable aspect of these Fests.

Attendees can look forward to a three-day extravaganza filled with entertainment, gastronomic delights, and opportunities to connect with Goa’s vibrant traditions.
