Power infrastructure in Cumbarjua constituency is set to receive a major boost with underground cabling works worth Rs 56 crores to be taken up post monsoon, said Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and local MLA Rajesh Faldessai.
He was speaking after inaugurating the renovated Sulabh Community Toilet facility at Carambolim and renovation work of the existing Panchayat Ghar Hall of V. P. Carambolim.
Those present were Carambolim Sarpanch Kusta Salelkar, Deputy Sarpanch Reshma Murgaonkar, ward member Sudesh Kunkaiker, panch members Rajesh Narvekar, Adv Bhuwaneshwar Fatarpekar, Rajesh Naik, Angela Valladares, Jayesh Naik and Teoflina Cardozo, as well as Block Development Officer Pretesh Shetye and Secretary Sanmesh Sawant
Faldessai said that the renovated hall will be a boon for the villagers of Carambolim.
“In my opinion, such a well-equipped hall does not exist in any panchayat across the state. This hall will immensely benefit our people from Carambolim panchayat for weddings or any other large functions. Now, instead of travelling to Panaji or other far-off places for a spacious hall, they will now opt to choose this hall for their family functions. There are also plans to install an air conditioning system, and if there is any shortall, I assure to render any assistance for this. Within the next one month, I will get an inverter installed for the entire hall. There should not be any inconvenience due to power outages during a birthday or wedding. If there is any other requirement I will get it done, please let us know,” the MLA said.
He also commended the panchayat team for taking the initiative.
“I credit the entire panchayat team of sarpanch, panch members and other officials. They have done a good job. The sarpanch has been doing a good job. He followed up on the file movement for the project and is fully supported by other panch members,” he said.
He also said that there was a longstanding demand for a toilet facility in the village.
“This was a major requirement. We have built 10 toilets, 5 each for gents and ladies. It will benefit our villagers. No works will remain incomplete,” he said.
Faldessai said that underground cabling works in the constituency will be taken up post monsoon.
“We will take up underground cabling works worth Rs 56 crores in the constituency once the monsoon ends. This will largely resolve the problems arising out of tree falls, snapping of wires, etc. Also, work for undertaking hotmixing of 17 roads has been passed by the government. However, this work will go to waste if we take up underground cabling. As the cabling work is urgent, we will take this up first, and will be followed by the hotmixing works,” he said.
On the Carambolim lake project, Faldessai said that the work has been retendered.
“The tender for the Rs 5.5 crore project was issued and awarded. But we had to cancel the contract as the successful bidder did not give a performance guarantee. The tender has now been reissued. Work will start after Ganesh Chaturthi,” he said
