Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Govt. of Goa in collaboration with The Goa State Veterinary Council is celebrating World Veterinary Day 2023 on 29* April 2023 at Hotel Fidalgo, Panaji. Goa.
The world veterinary day is celebrated globally every year on the last Saturday of the month of April. The day is observed to promote veterinary as an occupation and to augment the welfare of animals. The event picks a new and different theme each year, with 2023 theme focused on “Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Veterinary Profession. ” This year’s theme celebrates efforts from veterinarians, veterinary associations and others to advocate for fairness and equity. Diversity, equity and inclusion promote the representation and participation of different groups of individuals and encompass people of different ages, races, ethnicities, abilities, disabilities, genders, religions, cultures and sexual orientations. It also covers people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, skills and expertise. Diversity also includes the range of ideas. perspectives and values people have. Equity is equal treatment, access, opportunity and advancement for people by identifying and removing limiting barriers. Inclusion is accepting and embracing all with a culture where everyone feels welcome. The well-being of all veterinarians is enhanced when diversity, equity and inclusion is promoted and applied. Veterinarians in India come from all walks of life and are shining in diverse fields other than veterinary like defense forces, research and development, national leaders in policy making, bureaucrats in civil, administrative and diplomatic services, educationists in colleges and universities,
To commemorate this occasion, the event will be inaugurated at the hands of Shri. Nilkanth Halamkar, Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, in the presence of Dr. Candavelou, 1AS Principal Secretary (Finance),

Secretary (WRD), Shri. Arun Kumar Mishra, IAS Secretary (Environment), Dr.
Milind R. Bhirud, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Dr. Shamila Monteiro, Director (Fisheries), Shri. Neville Alphonso, Director (Agriculture), Shri. Parveen Kumar, ICAR-CCARI, Ela-Old Goa. A technical seminar on ‘Small Animal Ophthalmology’ has been organised to mark the event and guest speaker Dr. D.B.
Patil, Director of Research and Dean (Post Graduate Studies). Kamdhenu University, Ahmedabad, Gujrat has been invited for the same. Dr. Agostinho Misquita, Director, Dept. of A.H. & V. S. will host the event along with the Registrar, Dr. Veena Kumar, Goa State Veterinary Council. The event is open to all veterinarians.
On a similar note, for the first time in the history of Indian Veterinary profession, Govt. of India, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in collaboration with Veterinary Council of India (VCI) is organising celebration of World Veterinary Day 2023 at ‘Vigyan Bhawan’, New Delhi. The national level gala event will be graced by Shri. Parshottam Rupala, Hon’ble Union Minster of fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Govt. of India in presence of Dr. Sanjeev Balyan, Hon’ble Minister of State Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Dr. L. Murugan, Hon’ble Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Govt. of India Dr. Umesh Chandra Sharma, President of VCI. Around 1500 Veterinarians from diverse fields i.e.
Veterinary Officers (all states/UT), Adminstrators (IS, IPS. IFS, IRS), Indian Army (Remount Veterinary Corps), Educationalists (ICAR/University), Private Practitioners have been invited from all over the country for the grand ceremony.
Taking a lead it is time to foster a climate of diversity and inclusivity that is infused with high ethical standards, professionalism, and compassion.
