MARGAO: The Public Works Department (PWD) along with Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is taking up laying of undergound pipeline work in Curchorem at night without any work order, while citizens are at risk as no safety measures are in place, charged Goa Youth Congress.

Highlighting the haphazard work being taken from Ambedkar circle towards Chandor near the temple, South Goa District President of Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Mahesh Nadar on Wednesday when he visited the site of the ongoing works, the supervisor and contractors who were present were unable to produce a work order.

Heavy machinery was seen deployed at the site where digging of the road was being taken up late in the evening.

When questioned by Nadar, the supervisor called up his superior to inquire about the work order, was unable to produce any official documents.

“They are undertaking pipeline work without following safety measures. There are no signage and no warning board of traffic diversion. Only traffic cones were placed on the road. Also, there have no work order to take up work post 6pm. The puzzled supervisor onsite only mentioned about the bridge work. Vehicles are being diverted on one lane since many days. This creates chaos and confusion for commuters. All this is happening under PWD minister Nilesh Cabral. Cabral, who is the local MLA, is turning a blind eye to all this instead of being vigilant,” he said.

“We want the state government to throw light on this issue and the irresponsibility by GSIDC and PWD,” Nadar said.
